Winter Awakens

As autumn settles down to sleep

Winter slowly waking peeps

The leaves of gold now swept away

It’s winter’s time to come and play

First on the list is to shorten the days

Add lots of clouds, then wind and rain

Block out the sunlight

Then chill the air

Underneath dark clear skies of stars

A frozen world is glistening bright

Winter now wide awake

Lays down deep snow upon the ground

The winter’s grip will remain

For some bringing beauty

For others, hardship and pain

At least until the spring returns

And sends winter on it’s way
