Tunnel Vision

In a world of hatred, bigotry, and dread,

fuelled by wicked whispers and the voices in our head,

blinkered by intolerance, see what we want to see,

judging everybody, cause they’re not like you or me.

Already made your mind up, on the basis of religion,

what makes you right, what makes them wrong is the source of the division,

discriminating others, by the skin they’re living in,

surely, we can have a dream, like Martin Luther King

No flying of your national flag, so it doesn’t cause offence,

nor speak a different language, as your deemed to be entrenched,

no coming out, just staying in, for fear of persecution,

nor wed the one you really love, it’s not in our constitution.

Assuming you’re a mental case, cause your physically disabled,

through arrogance and ignorance, that’s how they have you labelled,

too old and overqualified, to offer the position,

too young to claim a benefit or draw your old age pension.

The human cost of Holocaust, World Wars and Ethnic cleansing,

crimes against humanity, breach human rights defending,

the sound of guns the flash of light, the screams and then silence,

a child left bleeding in the road numbed by the senseless violence.

Too blind to see what tunnel vision does to you and to me, it messes with your mind will and leave us hating humanity,

deliver us from evil, and not into temptation,

cause if we see in tunnel vision, we’ll feed discrimination.
