Travelling Companions

Niall and I are going the same way -

Into our future

Away from the past.

Small boy with a dinosaur,

Old man with his Zimmer.

We both have our kinship.

How long will it last?

Both are ungainly,

Resembling clowns.

Niall 'the annihilator'

'Old' John's puzzled frown.

Niall's very busy, learning fast,

And I am busy forgetting.

He is establishing spatial directions -

While I'm slowly losing all mental connections...

A mix of emotions stirred here John. I went from, “happy, funny, to sad”. That is a skill in so few lines. It’s beautiful thanks for sharing.

Wonderful John, a description of difference, young & old, yet your words elevate it into poignancy, memory and even spirituality.
