Grandad goes to McDonald’s.

I was at the drive in McDonald’s,

something I very rarely do,

I had the grandkids in the car ( it was their idea of a treat apparently),

and we took our place in the queue.

Now, not having done this sort of thing very often,

I wasn’t too sure of exactly how it worked,

but I was taking too long with placing my order, apparently,

because the woman behind me was going berserk .

I could see her in the rearview mirror,

honking the horn and shouting at me,

“maybe she’s late for an appointment”, I said to the kids

“or perhaps there’s somewhere where she needs to be .”

I ordered two happy meals for the young one’s,

“get a move on grandad.” I heard the woman yell,

when I got to the payment window, I said

“I’d like to pay for mine and the car behind me as well”.

I moved on to the collection window ,

behind me she flashed her lights,

she seemed a little taken aback at what I’d done,

and she waved and mouthed the words.” I apologise. “

I picked up the kids meals and said,

” I’ve paid for the car behind me, so I’ll take that one too if I may,”

“certainly sir“ said the youth in the booth,

“ That’s one double cheeseburger and a diet coke, have a nice day.”

I drove away slowly, looking in my mirror,

as they youth in the booth, explained that I’d taken her meal,

she began honking her horn and swearing again,

and banging her hand on the steering wheel

The people in the queue behind her, began honking their horns,

and then they received a mouthful of abuse,

the last thing I saw as I drove down the street,

was her, re- joining the back of the queue.

We may be older and we may be slower,

I’m not denying that,

but there is many a good tune played on an old fiddle,

and there’s more than one way to skin a cat.

This one was inspired by something I saw in a YouTube short, If you don’t know what that is, just ask one of your grandchildren.
