There was a time.
There was a time when I could touch my toes,
when I didn’t have to watch my weight
when hair didn’t grow out my ears and my nose,
at such an alarming rate.
A time when I could go out for a beer with my mates ,
and not have to get up three times in the night for a wee,
when I’d never even heard of Parkinson’s disease,
and I scoffed when they said it could happen to me.
A time when I probably drank too much,
when I didn’t know my limits,
a time when I could be in and out of the bathroom,
In under 15 minutes.
A time when … I , would give up MY seat on the bus,
and when I was passionate about so many things,
when putting my socks on wasn’t such a fuss,
and I had a flat stomach and a fringe .
A time when I used to be spontaneous,
and just did what I wanted to do,
a time when I didn’t have to plan my journey,
around the nearest public loo.
A time when my world seemed to be full of opportunities,
when I always seemed to have a choice,
a time when I could get out of a chair,
without making an involuntary noise.
.
now I’m much older and I realise,
that everything will pass,
so It’s important that you get your fun in now,.
because the time goes by so fast .
Take my advice and live life with a smile,
If you possibly can,
because it only seems like a few years ago,
that I was that adventurous and carefree young man.
Live life to the full, you only get one shot,
embrace every day and enjoy it
you’ll have to excuse me, but I must go now,
I need to google the nearest public toilet…..Again
