The Fairy's Lament

I wrote this for last year's Christmas party but didn't post it, so in the spirit of reuse and recycle, Happy Christmas everyone.

Its a rotten life being a fairy Stuck on top of the Christmas tree I don’t mean to sound bitter But baubles and glitter Are not really my cup of tea

It's all very well for old Santa

With mince pies and sherry galore

I have had to adjust

To a face full of dust

After spending a year in a drawer

Now some people favour an Angel

For others a star is the best

But a tree can look smashing

With little lights flashing

Unless they’ve been wrapped round your chest

It’s a rotten life being a fairy So forgive me if I’m looking hurt But it’s hard to be jolly With a face full of holly and a tree up the back of your skirt

PS The drawing is of my Dad in one of his classic roles
