Last night's dream concerned
A 'sleeper'-
One who lies low and then
Attacks.
It wrote some very convincing lines
(Carbon-copies, almost, of mine)
That agent of subversive packs.
It's purpose wasn't poetical
But political
Meant to undermine faith in our Parkie clan.
The verse was stylish and had been
Constructed with adroit, cool elan.
It's tenet was disparaging,
Asking why we should even try -
Since all would fail inevitably.
I then recognized it for what it was -
One gargantuan devilish lie.
I like how the first verse encapsulates the mood of the poem. It’s relativity to myself makes it that more special and makes me read it again.
I like this, John. That sleeping traitor lurking in our dreams often tries to undermine our confidence. Recognise the liar and keep going
Love the poem, especially the title. So many ways to interpret it all.
