Strong

Writer: Jes DerryJes Derry

no sun can burn my skin

no rain can drown my voice

no wind can push me over

no snow can make me cold

I am strong

stronger than before

stronger than you know

missiles of misery

seeking me out

hit after hit

I don’t fall down

because

I am strong

stronger than before

stronger than you know

as seeds of doubt are sown

doctors of spin

cultivate the plants

what chance do I hold

the chalice of truth

is my deadly weapon

and one day soon

everyone will know

what crimes have been committed

in order to gain

twenty four hour access

into my world

and then you will know

what it feels like to fear

what it feels like to be me

you will know just how strong

you made me become.

The poem echoes strength and determination from start to finish. A strong poem

A good poem stimulates emotion and intellect, echoing John's comment, it has depth and enough opacity to make me ponder. I feel the thoughts that created this poem are quite specific of course, and I'm struggling to convey what I mean. So I will say this is a perfect example of how pointless it is to dissect a poem to understand what the Poet meant, which is speculation and irrelevant, but how wonderful and positive it is to read a poem that connects with 'you', somehow, that is what matters.

Thank you very much and you are right in your analysis in that I write about a specific thought.
