Sleep eludes me

Sleep eludes me,

I know it’s there,

somewhere

Hiding in the darkness,

makes me want to scream and swear

Tomorrow will be a waste land,

dozing in my chair

Fate has delt me a life of naps,

drained of energy, a routine of fatigue.

But when I’m lucky enough to find some zzzzz’s,

my sleep is corrupted by vivid dreams

Monsters and evil things fill my head,

but there’s only room for two in our bed.

Kicking and punching I see them all off,

now only one remains, my wife to, has fled.

So an hour here, and an hour there,

seems to be all my brain can spare

Day after day, night after night

A good nights sleep,

Still eludes me.
