Rising from limbo

Updated: Apr 23

Rising from limbo

Hustle and bustle at the hub of uncertainty

Fear of flying only trumped by fear of not flying

The constant trundle of suitcase wheels

Punctuated by the pronouncements of the terminal

Aroma of freshly ground coffee welcomes travellers

Caffeine promises made by latte or expresso

Common currency exchange with the accents on

Cosmopolitan chatter voices just one of the barriers

Frozen in the moment as the thunder engines above

Descend or ascend in their turn, under the clouds

Arrive or depart on the road to the heavens

The dreams take flight, manifest and manifold

The information board shuffle triggers the exodus

Sweat drips from my brow, my hand dragged cabin bag

Constant companion even in the race to lounge

Bottleneck of a queue unaffected by liquid rules

Breath short after I negotiated the labyrinth

My heightened attention tracked the signs

Individuals start to change their direction

Notice board confirms diversion is apped

Flurry or scurry crowd cohesion to confusion

Changed terminal number filters into awareness

Tempers rise with the dry taste of frustration

Tired feet traverse the floor looking for limbos exit

Restless hands clutch the boarding pass and passport

Documents ready for inspection as I join the queue

That moves so slow its momentum seems to have flown

It must have paid extra for a priority pass

Stepping out on the tarmac the fresh breeze on my face

Bringing my second wind as my steps reverberate

My stride crosses from wheeled staircase to plane

Seated, belted feeling the thrust of horsepower rising

Thanks Martin

Nowadays I do feel wary of air travel. I no longer feel the resiliance to cope with the things that go wrong butr i think that the aftereffects of the pandemic also sneaked into this as the pandemic tooksome confidence from us that we are yet to rebuild
