The Abbey's solemn gothic towering high above them,
Eight young soldiers proudly support the weight
Of an emblazoned coffin,
Bearing Crown, Orb and Sceptre -
Majestic symbols of our kingdom state.
For a while, world attention
Bypasses mourning Royals and dignitaries
To focus on the eight young guardsmen -
Bearers of a precious load.
Their 'precious load' had borne far greater weight
On slender shoulders. The attention of millions
Relentlessly upon her.
The pallbearers stoically do their duty, as did she.
The red-clad men for several hours.
She, her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II,
For more than seventy years.
