the petrol’s going up again, the council tax is rising
the cost of gas is through the roof and over the horizon
there’s empty shops in every town, and empty factories too
now offices are closing down, the worst is coming true
we’ve people sleeping on the streets while others beg for change
there’s a food bank by the library and no one thinks it strange
retirement and care homes full of fear and desperation
at benefits and pensions rising well below inflation
and poverty is on the rise in working households too
victims of an economy that’s sadly gone askew
the multinational plutocrats pull strings from off the stage
and parliamentary puppets won’t provide a living wage
