Night-time visit

Most of my poetry tends to be written in the wee hours of the night. There is one of the more lighthearted of those poems, talking about how inspiration tends to make its appearance.

Why do you choose four in the morning

When everyone’s buried in sleep

To make you visit, to squeeze through the window

Mysterious, arrogant, sleek

I’m honestly, really ever so grateful

I love all you say, how you move

But Muse I must say your time of arrival

Is something you need to improve

Think of my sleep - are you really so certain

That night is when muses all thrive

Why can’t you pop in when people are working

Sometime between 9 and say 5.

Are you making a point or seeking attention

You’re fabulous, flighty and free

Don’t get me wrong,I’m thrilled that you visit

But couldn’t you just come for tea?

Thank you Gillian, a different take, there is humour to be found everywhere, and inspiration too!

Hugely enjoyable!

I love how grateful you are to this friendly but untimely muse.

I would have real difficulty in writing a humorous poem about being woken every night with a head full of inspiration. I like it and it put a smile on my unexpressive face 😑
