This one was partly inspired by being overwhelmed by the number and variety of communications we have to deal with and my son who told me using a full stop in a text apparently means you're angry and a thumbs up is an abrupt way to end a conversation.

27 WhatsApps, one about a fox

Seven Instagrams

X! Don’t get me started (of that I’m not a fan)

The problem with this texting - is it’s all too easily misconstrued.

Pick the wrong emoji and you’re seen as being rude.

Plus tone is so important with all communication

But it all gets so confusing when they leave out punctuation.

???

Because apparently that’s, ‘informal’ according to my son

And he obviously knows better - 'cos' he’s younger than his mum.

‘Its just not cool to use a ‘comma’ in a ‘casual conversation,

And a ‘full stop’ means you’re angry about the situation'.

. . . .

So who was it that decided to throw out the rules of grammar

And remove the punctuation (I’d like to hit them with a hammer)?

Instead I’m sitting wondering, (it’s really not much fun),

Did the panda eat the shoots and leaves? Or eat, then shoot, then run?

(when all I really want to do - is steal his bloody gun!)

But instead I try to filter, put the rubbish in the bin,

(but then I always panic and fish them out again).

Pretend that I have read them, all those messages and texts.

Click the thumbs and hearts and try not to get too vexed.

And I ponder what would happen if I did not bother to reply?

Would anybody notice, or stop to wonder why?

Perhaps I should just try it, cease all communication and go dark,

(because reading all these messages is really not a lark)

So I am going to go to ground, be silent, not reply.

I know it won’t be easy but I am going to try

To ignore all notifications and disappear for the day,

So don’t bother trying to message me because I have gone away.
