Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras a celebration to behold

Over hundreds of years old

Drunken exhibitionists fit the mold

Green, purple, and gold

Color of beads to hoard

Pink flamingoes galore

Time to trade tales of yore

for both rich and poor.

Took me back to my visit to New Orleans- hot, humid, diverse, rich, poor, earthy, colonial with a party vibe bubbling underneath waiting to boil over at sundown

Thank you. I did write a second poem about Mardi Gras; however, technical difficulties have been a problem. Did you know that Mardi Gras is a state holiday in Louisiana? Orleans Parish and all parishes (counties) around New Orleans both public and private schools are closed all week.
