The weekly wash is smaller than before
The food shop half the size it used to be
No bathroom towels in piles on the floor
and breakfast tray holds just two cups of tea
Her room now echoes with a mother’s sighs
with longing for her daughter to appear.
The tiny tears that fell from dolly’s eyes
Sad memory of days no longer here
Now she lives in a new house of her own
The one they saved so many years to buy
and pieces of the nest that she has flown
now decorate their lovers’ sanctuary
My body fills with pride as I observe
My princess in the palace she deserves
