LIFE’S TIMELESS JOURNEY

What is it like to be aged sixty plus.?

What will it be like to grow old?

What will it be like as the years roll along?

The answer is easily told.

Ask any who’ve reached the age sixty or more

If they have some advice, as a guide.

They’ll tell you that there is no difference at all

As we’re always the same age inside!

The secret of having a future of worth

Is in knowing life’s path is self made.

Maturity’s knowing the glory of years

As the yearnings of youth always fade.

Time marches along, past years fill our thoughts,

Lives change: but one thing is quite clear,

Life’s all that we make it, we are what we choose

The future holds nothing to fear.

Happiness comes from making right choices,

Selecting best ways, tried and true.

It’s not found in doing the things that you like,

But in liking the things that you do!

So, as you reach sixty you must realise There’ll be no real problems to rage.

Sixty is simply the old age of youth

But it’s also the youth of old age!

Originally written for my daughter’s 40th birthday , but on November 23 2024 she reached her 60th, and the poem was resurrected. I have used it on many occasions as it useful for a greetings card.

I give my permission to anyone to use it, changing the age to any of your choice, but preferably bearing my name as the writer

Looking forward to acquiring all this wisdom next year when I am 60. Love the last two lines of the penultimate verse.

Lovely poem. My birthday is also 23rd November but 1951. All that you have said is quite true but add to that , when life gets a little more difficult and the aches, pains and visits to the doctor ( if you're lucky enough to see one) that "Old age is a priviledge denied to many. " Nice to read a really positive approach
