I wonder what she’s thinking as we lay here our bed
Her thoughts are always swirling round and round inside her head
We raised our daughter Rhian taught her ltill she flew the nest
Nursed our parents when they were frail and old, we did our very best
Our Grandchildren then came along we more than played our part
Read books and played games whilst they pulled strings in our heart
But now their both in school and whilst it was great fun
It’s our time to relax and celebrate a job well done,
But Parkinson’s arrived and took control out of our hands
And stuck a big old spoke in our retirement plans.
Why’s is life so unfair Ann often says to me
Why us,why now she asks and I tend to agree
We talk it all through now it’s just me and you
We can do this together we’re strong
But I know that she fears it may all end in tears
There is so much that could go wrong
I hold her and say “lets live for today”
The future, well ..that’s for the birds
I squeeze her hand tight, come on where’s the fight
Your thoughtas, well today they’re just words
I give her a cuddle her heads all a muddle
But my thoughts are all very clear
With her as my rock there will be no future shock
I know we have nothing to fear.
Whatever our fate we’ll be sure to create
A bond between us strong as steel
We’ll face it together any storms we will weather
No parky cant spoil how we feel
Ann here in my heart, nothing drives us apart
As I’m sure we will both discover
Love you more every day so just wanted to say
Your my rock, my best friend and my lover
Poem written just after my diagnosis dedicated to my wife Ann who in her own words “ nearly threw up on the consultants desk”when he mentioned Parkinson’s
By nature she’s a worrier and just can’t switch off but has been very supportive to me as the years passed and symptoms has worsened
One morning after waking up I watched her sleeping on the pillow besides me and the poem was born
I hope you shared this with your wife, it's very touching and moving.
Any words born from such truth of heart are pure poetry, thank you for sharing this Jeff.
It's full of tenderness and love. Thank you for sharing
