The funeral of someone who was not very nice
Is a strange and awkward affair.
You’re there to mourn, but you also remember
Times when the person was not always fair.
You’re surrounded by people who knew him quite well
And you wonder if they feel the same
Did they love him or hate him, or just put up with him?
Did they feel he had earned his bad name?
As you listen to eulogies, stories and tales
You wonder if all heard could be true.
Did they really do all those wonderful things?
Was it something they just happened to do?
You think about times you had spent with them
And you wonder if you should be present.
But you know it’s important to bid a farewell
Though the person was not really pleasant.
So, to end this farewell to a person maligned
As one who was not worthy of friends.
In truth if he was one who was not very nice
To the same place he’ll go as life ends.

I like your originality and courage to express the truth. Have heard eulogies trying to rewrite history and thought the same.
Interesting choice of subject matter - I’m hoping it wasn’t from personal experience , but if so you have succeeded nicely in poetic revenge.
too true Val, you get what you give
