GOING TO BED

Writer: Paulette MehtaPaulette Mehta

It’s not easy going to bed anymore,

Now that PD has made my body so sore.

No longer do I slide into bed with ease,

Turning on my side however I please.

Getting into bed has become a chore,

Extending one leg 80 or 90° or more,

While the other leg waits patiently on the floor,

Then leaping and hopping, my legs jump on the bed.

Changing position takes pushing and pulling,

Hoisting my body with rails which I’m still installing.

During the night, turning side to side requires

More heaving and tugging, as I stress out and tire.

Hoisting myself up again and again and again,

Hoping sleep will take pity and bring me some slumber

Or at least help me wait sweetly and softly for sun to arise,

To start a new day, beneath brighter skies.
