Done Without

The best in the world can be done without

Her mother used to say

She died aged 49, did she know

The time or day.

Now my mother uses that line

At 91 it's close

A full and active mind she exudes

the brilliance that age allows

I really don't know what I'll do

When the time comes for her to go.

But I do know that she'll watch us

And keep up with the ebb and flow.

Life is like that, special people you meet and love

Not everyone means the same to you

so you can carry on when they're above.

But this lady will leave her mark

When someone repeats that line

We all know tears and the years will flow before we can do without.

Loved the tender sentiment which comes through in your poem

My mothers voice is permanently in my head, she loved an idiom and we were treated to them often. Thank you for this .
