Candlepower

In winter cold despite log fire,
my evenings spent in toasting self
before the peats dug from bog moss,
the glow of gluhwein coursing through
my core, as central heating roared,
both boiler, circulatory.
A reason here to celebrate -
the sparkling memory, past year,
despite the tide of horror, news,
of rampant selfishness abroad
in every corner of the globe.
Rejoice at candles not snuffed out,
for faithful flames in icy freeze,
thin tapers spreading, sharing sparks,
like minute stars in vaster space,
recalling pins are magnitude;
‘our God contracted to a span
incomprehensibly made man’.
