Birdsong

Writer: Liz StarbuckLiz Starbuck

At the funeral

A bird sings

Sings for him

Brings a tinge of sadness

Sadness to the whole affair

That I’ll no longer share

Birdsong with him

Yet the bird still sings

This is how I remember my dad. Every time I hear a chaffinch on my walks. Thank you

Sometimes less is more - beautifully compact, precise and poignant

Excellent! I enjoyed this and 'Honey trap' very much Liz. You illustrate perfectly the impact of a short poem. Easy to remember, learn, simple structure yet it's all there, the whisper and the roar! Which for me is in that perfect last line, denouement ? volta(ish) i don't know, but it is a big dollop of poignancy which set me thinking.Job done.
