Behind those Blue Eyes

Updated: Mar 20

For better or for worse, those words mean so much.

A loving kiss, a gentle touch. In good times and for when it's tough.

Four hands bail out when seas are rough.

Soul mates on that trip of life, we said "I will " husband and wife.

Money won't buy happiness they say, it's your health that counts come what may.

As a couple you feel each others pain, when a cloud bursts on me Netty feels the rain. Its hard for her to watch her man keep up the fight, there is no plan.

I still lay my coat over every puddle but I sometimes forget, my mind's a muddle. That dodgeball that I mostly swerve hits her full on, lays bare the nerve.

For she's the one who picks up the bits, on her wide shoulders the weight of worry sits.

I may moan about my physical pain but it's Annette that really takes the strain.

She gets asked by folk "now how is Jon ",they just don't know what's going on.

I think I should take them aside, show them the feelings my good lady hides.

Frustration, anger, pain all jar, the blade cuts deep, it leaves a scar.

When the wheels fall off, oblivious to some, she's always there, puts them right back on.

What she deals with day to day,  if people knew they'd say "no way "!

Slow water flows both deep and wide, below the surface is where the demons hide.

That smiling face, the joyous grin belies the pain she holds within.

My wife, you see is very tough, she is my anchor when seas are rough.

I'm in a boat with just one oar but Netty steers, in her I'm sure.

I wish those folk could spend just one day within her skin, see what they'd say.

For then they'd truly realise what lies behind those beautiful blue eyes
