As I walk

I turned as I was leaving But only to lock the door Fumbling fingers dropped the key Like so many times before I start to walk my feet crushing the gravel Almost rhythmically I started to travel Nowhere specific just out for a walk Fresh air and exercise, perhaps stop and talk As I walk I become more aware of my surroundings Birds singing, dogs barking, voices laughing Flowers blooming, under heavenly blue skies I feel the air in my lungs I feel the beat of my heart, pumping blood through my veins Easing my aches and pains An extraordinary feeling There’s a smile on my face Today I’m so happy Just being me in this place
